KWCUSA Comes to ABC

KWCUSA will welcome camera crews and producers from ABC film to its singers at this years’ regional and national championships. Interest in what is the largest national singing competition in the country has grown so dramatically that the national network has taken notice and is on board to film the singers and document their stories as they advance through the competition. Wendell Payne, the president of the KWCUSA organization explains that “this gives the 15 million karaoke singers in this country an opportunity they have never had before.”

The presence of ABC’s cameras will no doubt bring out the best talent the contest has seen so far. It is an opportunity like no other to showcase the undiscovered talent out there. While this isn’t the first time that karaoke singers have been spotlighted on national television-the Oprah Winfrey Show featured a karaoke contest last year, this will be the first time that national network cameras will be documenting the singers and their stories throughout an entire competition.

A chance to be on national television will make this contest resonate even more with the thousands of singers who either have, will, or are participating in the local contests all across the country right now. To accommodate the interest from singers so far, and to satisfy the demand that is sure to follow the news that a national network will be filming the event, KWCUSA has consolidated its regional finals into three and is allowing its local and state competitions to run longer.

KWCUSA Rules

The following rules include those set by the KWC governing body.

  1. The competition is open to amateurs who are interested in karaoke-singing. It is not for professional singers. An amateur is defined as a singer who is not currently making a full-time income from singing. Absolutely no one that can possibly be considered a professional will be allowed to particpate. KWCUSA has complete authority to disqualify any competitor in violation of this rule.
  2. Anybody over 18 years of age can compete (men and women).
  3. Men and women will have their own categories. Unfortunately no duets are allowed.
  4. The language used in singing may be chosen freely and competitors can bring their own karaoke discs (manufacturers CD's only, not copies!) of their songs (5 different songs). Maximum length of one song is +/- 5 minutes.
  5. Profanity is not permitted at any time.
  6. The finalist winners will be awarded (five best women and five best men).
  7. The winners of the men's and women's categories will be named THE WORLD CHAMPIONS OF KARAOKE for that year.
  8. The jury of the finals will consist of music and singing professionals.
  9. To represent U.S.A. in the Karaoke World Championships, participants must hold a current U.S.A. passport.

Record a track

With the karaoke studio you can easily record yourself without a background track.
The most common mistake is holding the microphone too close to your mouth. Make sure the mic isn't held any closer than 2-3 inches from your mouth when singing normally. The distance is different for each individual.
