About KWC Canada

History

MeAndMic.com is the official and exclusive licensee of The KWC in Canada. In the 2010 season we focused on live competitions in BC, and successfully put on the first Canadian National Karaoke Championships. We took the grand champion Kirsten Durand (Profile Page) to Moscow in September and she did an incredible job representing Canada!

In our Second year MeAndMic.com made competition more available to those who could not make it to a live venue by providing for the first time a separate online competition entry model. Competitors from as far as Williams Lake BC to Burlington Ontario sang to represent Canada for 2011. In the end Male Champion Trevor Dunn (Profile Page) and Female Grand Champion Jerrica Santos (Profile Page) will sing for the title of Karaoke World Champion in Kilarney Ireland.

MeAndMic.com also wants to make competition more available to those who cannot make it to a live venue by providing for the first time a separate online competition playoff model. We are also hope to offer the same chance to as many of the other KWC countries as possible.

KWC Canada National Championships Rules

The following rules include those set by the KWC governing body. Additionally live venue rules above apply.

  1. The competition is open to amateurs who are interested in karaoke-singing. It is not for professional singers. An amateur is defined as a singer who is not currently making a full-time income from singing. Absolutely no one that can possibly be considered a professional will be allowed to particpate. KWCUSA has complete authority to disqualify any competitor in violation of this rule.
  2. Anybody over 18 years of age can compete (men and women).
  3. National Championships will consist of three preliminary rounds. Rounds 1 and 2 will be judged primarly on audience participation, round 3 will be judged by panel. The top 5 from rounds 1 through 3 will perform a final selection which will also be judged by panel. In the event of a tie, a fifth performance may be required.
  4. Contestants should have 5 songs prepared for competition (Rounds 1 through 3, finals and possible tie-break). Rules on track selection are the same as the live venue rules above.
  5. To represent Canada in the Karaoke World Championships, participants must hold a current Canadian passport.
